Dear Members,

Unfortunately the first item in this News section is some sad news.

08.30 a.m.

When I went to feed DGZ this morning I noticed that all three breeding hens had abandoned their eggs.

Though this is very normal: they do so everyday to get some fresh air for themselves and the eggs, I had a look at the eggs and in the middle cabin where white hen Janine is breeding and saw this:

The two chicks must have been at least one day old and the one on the left came out of one of the eggs of Arnold's hens.

Moreover the eggs were covered with hundreds of small creepy creatures: mites(bloedluis).

Immediately I treated their sleeping quarters with insecticides, but I'm afraid it's too late and fear the worst for the rest of the eggs.

13.15 p.m.

'Janine didn't return to her nest and after consulting the expert, my brother Wim, I took the eggs away and cleaned the cage properly.  The other two, 'Paulus' and 'Bobby' carried on breeding.

As soon as there's is more news, I'll keep you informed.

All the best,

Peter.
